Want to be like Dr Tom and conduct your very own imaging experiment? We’ve enrolled the help of our very own CHAPets, Grace and Ava, to demonstrate how you can do an imaging experiment from your own home.

All you need is white or pale flowers, an old container, some water, food colouring and a camera (a phone or tablet will do). If you are feeling super adventurous you can even try this experiment with lots of different coloured food colouring to get multicoloured flowers! Happy #LockdownLearning!

Watch Dr Tom show us how scientists use imaging to monitor plant health.

About Grace and Ava

Grace and Ava live on a farm in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. They are particularly interested in linking science and agriculture, as their Aunt, Dr Jenna Ross, is one of our leading scientists at CHAP. They love getting involved and trailing our #LockdownLearning experiments.

We’d love to see what happened to your flowers, so please send your pictures to letstalkfarming@nfu.org.uk, and if you enjoy this activity, check out the current Farmvention challenges over at www.farmvention.com.

About CHAP

CHAP stands for Crop Health and Protection. It is one of four UK Agri-Tech Centres created by the government to help British agriculture produce as much food as possible by developing new technologies to help growers and food producers.

CHAP brings together leading scientists, farmers, advisors, innovators and businesses to understand industry challenges, drive research and innovation and develop and trial solutions that transform crop systems.

We work with partners to translate and promote these solutions for market adoption and improved crop productivity. We want to increase crop productivity for future generations through the uptake of new technologies.
